Silambattam out of trouble
December 19, 2008
The petition filed by a film distributor seeking a stay on the release of Silambattam was dismissed by the City Civil Court magistrate yesterday. It is now anticipated that the film will be released as per its schedule.
Film distributor Ramamoorthy, in his petition, had alleged that Vijaya T Rajendar of Simbu Cine Arts owed him about Rs. 34.25 lakhs. He claimed that the amount was not settled by Simbu Cine Arts but instead they gave him the distributorship rights of Monisha En Monalisa. Unfortunately this film failed to garner the expected profits.
As per the petitioner’s contention, the amount owed must be settled before the production houses releases its next film - Silambattam. However, the magistrate held that the agreement between the parties did not contain a stipulation to that effect and therefore dismissed the petition.
